Who writes this blog?


Andrew Maycroft is a professional linguist with 29 years of continuous professional experience in the fields of Modern Languages education and training, educational project management, document translation and team management.

After graduating with a B.A. Joint Honours degree in German and Dutch, his career included periods spent teaching in Germany and the Netherlands, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, postgraduate study in French, 13 years as a teacher and Head of Department in Modern Languages, A Level examining, and Business Languages examining in German and Dutch, followed by 16 years working in-house with a  major translation company in the North of England, where he is now Senior Translator. Andrew is a specialist and near-native speaker and writer of German and Dutch and a fluent user of French for professional purposes.

Part of Andrew’s role involves working with young Modern Languages graduates starting out on their language career.  He also is a regular visitor to Modern Languages departments at several universities in the North of England, providing guest lectures on developing your career in Modern Languages, “Leveraging your Languages”, translation and translation project management.
